I have not done very many toddler sweaters---am just getting into this with my first grandchild.
The proportions on most of these sweaters will work out if you use a slightly heavier gauge than sport--a light worsted-- with a larger needle. Work the top part until you see that the back is the width you need---the sleeves will be accordingly wider. Then divide off, and make the body and sleeves as long as you like. Baby sleeves tend to be one width. For a toddler, you can taper the sleeves, startling at about the elbow.
Stay tuned. I am working on a top-down pullover, approx. size 2. Once I get the bugs out, I will post it.
